There is something timeless about the coast, the soft movement of the tide, the ever-changing skies, weathered textures and the feeling of space you experience when standing beside the sea.

For me, coastal artwork is not simply about painting a view. It is about capturing a feeling, the quiet moments, the softness of natural light and the memories attached to the places we love.

Living and working between the gentle landscapes of Suffolk and the sunlit shores of Kefalonia, Greece, my work is deeply influenced by coastlines, open horizons and the calming colours found in nature.

My Connection to the Coast

Much of my inspiration comes from Emblisi Beach in Kefalonia — a place that has quietly become woven into my life.

With its smooth white pebbles, crystal-clear turquoise water and constantly changing skies, it is a landscape that never looks exactly the same twice. The colours shift with the seasons, the weather and the beautiful Ionian light.

It is where I swim, read, share picnics, watch the horizon, sunbathe and simply slow down. It is a place filled with ordinary moments and unforgettable ones, somewhere I have laughed, cried, reflected and felt completely present.

These moments are what influence the way I paint. I am not trying to recreate an exact view, but rather capture the feeling a place leaves behind, the softness of the light, the movement of the shoreline, the textures shaped by nature and the calm we carry home with us.

The Appeal of Muted Colours in Coastal Art

While coastal artwork is often associated with bright blues and vibrant seaside colours, I have always been drawn to a quieter interpretation.

Soft neutrals, chalky whites, gentle blues, warm sands and earthy tones create artwork that feels peaceful, timeless and easy to live with.

The colours we surround ourselves with can completely change the atmosphere of a room. A carefully chosen piece of art can bring balance, warmth and a sense of calm into our everyday spaces.

Texture, Layers and Quiet Detail

Each Muted Palette piece begins as an original painting, created slowly and intuitively using acrylic paint and palette knives.

I build layers of texture and subtle movement, reflecting the natural elements that inspire me, sea-worn stone, shifting sands, coastal paths, soft horizons and changing skies.

It is often the quiet imperfections, the hidden layers and the small details that give a piece its character and connection.
